KISE showcases the wonders of Science on stage during STEM Week

STEM Week aimed to cultivate the students’ love and appreciation towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. This is to celebrate the Malaysian government’s incentive to emphasize STEM education from a young age. It is a collective effort to encourage Malaysians to pursue STEM programs and innovations in the future.

Throughout the week, the students and teachers of KISE chose two simple science experiments for them to study and practice. The two experiments are Lemon Volcano and Playdough Circuit.

  1. Lemon Volcano:
  • Focuses on the reaction between an acid (lemon juice) and base (baking powder) to create bubbles (carbon dioxide).
  • Components: Sliced lemons, baking powder, food colouring and fork (to mix the juice and baking powder together).

2. Playdough Circuit:

  • Focuses on electricity and conductivity.
  • Components: LED light, wires, batteries, switches, conductive playdough.

The use of bright food colourings and playdough shaped as cookies, hearts, or stars was intentional. The purpose was to attract the attention of children by increasing the visibility of each component and the results of the experiments. This was especially important because at the end of STEM Week, KISE students also attended the Year End Concert by Little Caliphs Kalam Khalifah at MYDIN to present their experiments.

Through this showcase, KISE students were able to demonstrate their advanced and integrative education at school. Not only were they able to explain the science experiments step-by-step but they also did it in English in front of a public crowd.

Congrats and thank you to all KISE students for the amazing showcase! As our country continues to stress on STEM education, KISE hopes to encourage the students’ interest in the field. The end goal is for them to be able to contribute to society as experts and leaders in their respective fields in the future.
