At Kalam Integrated School of Excellence (KISE), Language & Culture Month was celebrated with great enthusiasm to promote awareness and appreciation of Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage. This event aimed to teach students the importance of unity, diversity, and respect for different races and ethnicities, all while having fun through engaging activities.

Objectives of Language & Culture Month

The main goals of this event were to:
βœ… Foster cultural awareness – Help students understand and appreciate the different cultures in Malaysia.
βœ… Promote unity and respect – Encourage respect for various traditions and ethnic backgrounds.
βœ… Enhance language skills – Improve students’ ability to communicate and express themselves in multiple languages.
βœ… Preserve traditional practices – Introduce students to classic games, clothing, and foods from different cultures.
βœ… Strengthen Islamic values – Teach students that diversity aligns with the values of Islam, which promotes understanding and mutual respect.

Traditional Costume Day: A Showcase of Heritage

One of the most exciting highlights of the celebration was Traditional Costume Day, where students dressed in colourful cultural attire representing Malaysia’s diverse backgrounds. This allowed them to experience the beauty of traditional clothing while fostering pride in their heritage.

To make the day even more memorable, students participated in traditional games such as congkak and batu seremban, reinforcing the importance of preserving cultural traditions. The event ended with a delicious feast featuring traditional Malaysian cuisines, giving students a taste of the country’s diverse culinary delights.

Islamic Values in Cultural Appreciation

Islam teaches us to respect and embrace diversity in a way that aligns with Islamic values. The Quran reminds us:

“O Humanity! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may get to know one another. Surely the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you.” (Al-Hujurat, 49:13)

Through this celebration, students not only learned about different cultures but also understood the Islamic perspective on unity, respect, and togetherness.

Instilling a Lifelong Appreciation for Culture

The Language & Culture Month at KISE successfully provided students with a meaningful experience, teaching them to embrace diversity while staying true to their Islamic values. By understanding and appreciating each other’s cultures, they develop into well-rounded individuals who will contribute positively to society.

May this celebration inspire KISE students to continue learning about and respecting the many cultures that make Malaysia a truly special nation.
