KISE Collaborates with Harmuni Bakery for Entrepreneur Day

Students of Kalam Integrated School of Excellence (KISE) collaborated with Harmuni Bakery in Ketereh and made their own donuts! This is in conjunction with their Entrepreneur Day which is to teach them about the ins and outs of running a bakery business. The students, bakers, and other participants all had a jolly good day surrounded by the smell of fresh pastries.

Activities included in Entrepreneur Day were:

    • Taking part in Harmuni Bakery’s baking class to understand the effort it takes to run a business
    • Buying and selling roleplay to learn the process and support Harmuni Bakery’s business
    • Learning how to promote a business using descriptive English vocabulary
    • Engaging with the local community during the baking class

These activities mean to expose the students to how small businesses are typically run; with the concerted effort between all the employees and a tight-knit relationship with the community. The staff of Harmuni Bakery as well as the other participants of the class were very warm and welcoming towards KISE students. Together, they had a delightful day of baking and getting to know each other.

We hope that this Entrepreneur Day instills in the students an interest towards becoming business owners in the future as our Prophet SAW was also a businessman. In a hadith, Prophet Muhammad SAW was reported to say,

التَّاجِرُ الصَّدُوقُ الأَمِينُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّينَ، وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ، وَالشُّهَدَاءِ

“The truthful, trustworthy merchant is with the Prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs.”

[Sunan al-Tirmizi (1209). This is a hasan (good) hadith according to Imam al-Tirmizi.]*

In shaa Allah, KISE students will become successful entrepreneurs complete with the characteristics listed by our beloved Prophet. This program is simply the first step towards that goal.
