Students of Kalam Integrated School of Excellence (KISE) recently visited Rumah Seri Kenangan, an old folks home in Pengkalan Chepa as part of their Social Community Club program. During the visit, each student paired up with a ‘grandma’ or a ‘grandpa’ as they played various games that require cooperation and connection. From the smiles of every face that we saw that day, suffice to say it was a meaningful experience for all involved.

The objectives of this trip were:
-
- To foster a sense of empathy and social responsibility among students by engaging with the elderly
- To bring happiness and companionship to the residents through meaningful interactions and activities
- To strengthen the bond between our school and the local community
It was heart-warming to see the interactions between the students and their paired residents. This is because everyone brought their A-game on and was very engaged in each of the activities. Perhaps the most remarkable thing was how the residents were eager to join in during the warming up session in spite of their various levels of mobility.
Seeing people of different stages of life and health has been a very eye-opening experience. Therefore, we believe the students will carry this memory for a long time. In the long run, hopefully they will transform this energy into leading a world where our old folks are well cared for.
We are incredibly grateful to our students for their participation. We also appreciate the staff and residents of Rumah Seri Kenangan for welcoming us so warmly. This experience has been a meaningful opportunity for our young learners.
